No two coral reefs are the same, and no two reefs will face the future in the same way. This variability, however, can teach us lessons about how to manage coral reefs for the best future possible.
The 100 Island Challenge is a collaborative effort based at Scripps Institution of Oceanography with the mission to describe the variation of coral reefs from across the globe. We combine classical field surveys with innovative imaging and data technologies to archive reefs digitally and watch how populations change through time.
