Coral Reef Ecology
Dr. Jennifer Smith and Dr. Nichole Price recently published a paper, “High-Frequency Dynamics of Ocean pH: A Multi-Ecosystem Comparison,” that is featured in the journal PloS One.
Their paper details their field research using sensors developed at SIO to document the the continuous change of upper ocean pH among a range of marine ecosystems, from polar to tropical, open-ocean to coastal, kelp forest to coral reef. It provides a glimpse at how specific ecosystems respond to changes in ocean pH caused by an increase absorption of anthropogenic CO2.
